Easy-dining bistro style restaurant, Compton, located in St John’s Square in the heart of Clerkenwell, is our latest venture in partnership with Compton.
With a menu full of creativity and an atmosphere brimming with flair, the Instagrammable hotspot offers breakfast, small plates, and cocktails, alongside a grab and go deli.
Behind the menu inspiration is our talented chef trio – executive chef Mike Shaw, head chef Sam Monastyrskyj and sous/pastry chef Ben Stanley, who work closely with Compton’s creative director, Alex Kaye, who supports in the menu development.
Compton offers simple statement dishes inspired by seasonal ingredients from local suppliers. Everything, other than olives and olive oil, is British, and the team are proud to choose only the very best ingredients.
Talking through the menu, executive chef Mike Shaw, said: “When we came together, we cherrypicked our favourite suppliers, keeping existing relationships and allowing us to build a list of some of the finest suppliers in the UK. Some of my favourites include the hand cut beef tartar with pickled walnut and beef fat croutons and the smoked haddock croquettes – they’re always really popular”.
Dishes are changed often to allow the team to try new ideas and ingredient combinations. Mike says: “A dish will tell me when it’s ready to come off the menu, often once it’s run its course and been delicious”.
From Basque style cheesecake to boozy affogato, the team have been getting creative when it comes to plant-based cooking. Ben explains: “Plant-based desserts are always tricky as most desserts contain egg or cream. We have developed a different take on strawberry jelly – British strawberries, champagne jelly and granita, basil and honeycomb. It’s delicious and fun!”
Alongside small plates of BBQ Cornish mussels with Dashi broth, Lovage and crispy shallots, and Cobble Lane charcuterie, visitors can also enjoy a Hemingway Daiquiri cocktail or homemade elderflower Champagne.
Compton is open 08:00-17:00 Monday-Tuesday, 08:00-23:00 Wednesday-Friday, 08:00-16:00 Saturday and closed on Sunday. The artisan deli serves a daily-changing menu of fresh pastries, sandwiches, bagels, charcuterie, and artisan coffee.
