We are excited to have eighteen Degree Apprentices join our WSH family, fifteen of which will be completing their Level 6 Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship journey.
The programme combines on-the-job experience with students working four days a week in our locations, including Wellcome Genome Campus, University of Cumbria and ASOS, as well studying one day a week with Arden University.
Getting their hands in the flour (quite literally!) they will experience all parts of the business – shadowing our chefs in the kitchen, helping with menu development, learning about front of house, as well as getting involved in finance, health and safety, marketing and event planning.
Our CEO, Ronan Harte said: “Creating opportunities through our degree apprentice programme is one way we are addressing the skills gap in our industry. We know that growing talent from the grass roots up often creates the best future leaders”.
“I started my career through an apprenticeship – it’s a great way to come into the industry, to learn your trade. We’re seeing more interest and sign-ups for apprenticeships, and we’re focused on increasing this number.”
Apprentice Elizabeth Taylor, 18, added: “I’ve always wanted a job in hospitality and thought this would be a great way to into helping me progress into a management role. My manager, Cathryn, has been a great support already – she’s very flexible with helping me manage my university work”.
