Supporting their local community throughout half term, Brigade Bar + Kitchen in London Bridge provided over 500 packed lunches and nutritious after school meals to local families in need of support.
Owned by PwC and managed by BaxterStorey, Brigade Bar + Kitchen is home to social enterprise Beyond Food, helping vulnerable adults who have experienced homelessness, to gain meaningful employment.
The chef team at Brigade oversaw food ordering and cooking of the nutritious meals, whilst the apprentices were responsible for packing the lunches every day. Each lunch consisting of a homemade brioche bun sandwich, apple, water, fruit juice and biscuit.
BaxterStorey suppliers were also keen to get involved; Cawston Press contributed fresh fruit juices, whilst Belu donated a tonne of carbon-neutral water bottles.
The lunches were delivered to several charities including Fast58, CSC Hub and Albrighton Community Centre. Also donated were copies of Simon Boyle’s ‘How to cook and keep on cooking’ recipe book.
Chef and founder of Beyond Food, Simon Boyle said: “Our ethos is about good food doing good and in these unprecedented and challenging times we feel we have a role to play. It’s been fantastic to help organisations local to London Bridge in making a real difference to families this half term”.
Simon Boyle has also been shortlisted for a Lockdown Hero Award at this year’s The Staff Canteen Awards, for all his incredible efforts to transform his restaurant into a community kitchen during the pandemic.
