There was cause for celebration at The British Travel and Hospitality Hall of Fame, as Westbury Street Holdings (WSH) was recognised with the 2019 Business Achievement Award.
The prestigious awards and gala dinner were held at the Four Seasons at Park Lane in London, recognising the highest achievers in the hospitality and tourism sectors, rewarding those who have gone above and beyond.
WSH was praised for their recent diversification into the restaurant sector with WSH Restaurants’ The Woodspeen chef patron John Campbell receiving a Michelin Star after only ten months and offering to support Monica and David Galetti on their first solo venture, Mere restaurant.
Judges praised WSH’s achievements at the 2018 FoodService Cateys including BaxterStorey winning Business and Industry Caterer of the Year, Searcys achieving the Front of House Team category and other wins including Healthy Eating Champion, Regional Manager of the Year and Extra Mile Award. Alastair Storey, chairman and chief executive of the group was also reconfirmed as most influential person in hospitality by The Caterer in 2018, a position he has held since 2015.
Presenting the award was Accor chief operating officer Thomas Dubaere, who told the audience of WSH’s commitment to not only nurturing rising talent within the business, but their dedication as lead sponsor of the prestigious Gold Service Scholarship.
Dubaere commented on the win: “WSH employ more than 23,000 people in the UK hospitality industry and are passionate about supporting the training and development of their teams. There are three market-leading academies – for chefs, baristas and most recently for front of house service. Where others may have struggled, WSH continues to strive and grow.”
Co-chief executive, Noel Mahony said: “We are extremely proud to have been awarded the Business Achievement Award. WSH is founded on a deep commitment to training and we are continuously looking at new ways to support the development of our teams. It’s a privilege to work with amazing people across the WSH group, and it is thanks to them and their dedication that we have been recognised with this award”.
